Form G-1145, E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance

Form G-1145 Explained

What is Form G-1145 used for?

Individuals who are filing certain USCIS immigration forms may also submit Form G-1145, E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance, to request that USCIS text and/or email a notification once they accept the primary form for processing.

You cannot file this form by itself. You must file it with a primary form. There is no cost to use Form G-1145, and it's use is totally optional. USCIS will also mail a notice to the filer to inform them that the primary form was accepted or rejected.

How to Use Form G-1145 to Get a Text/Email

When can I file the G-1145?

The only appropriate time to use Form G-1145 is when you are filing another USCIS application or petition. It’s a free form. Place it on top of the first page of your application package.

Before USCIS can accept your application for processing, they generally review the completeness of the application and process your payment.

To prepare Form G-1145, simply enter your name and e-notification information. Use the same name that is on your primary application. For example, if you are filing Form N-400 to naturalize as a U.S. citizen, use the same name that is on your Form N-400. Then, include your email address and/or phone number. You must include one. However, USCIS will not text to a non-U.S. phone number.

Filing Address for G-1145

Where do I mail this form?

You will file Form G-1145 at a USCIS lockbox. Send it along with your primary application or petition. However, you can’t use Form G-1145 with all applications and petitions.

Form G-1145 can only be used with applications filed at one of the USCIS lockbox facilities. The lockbox facilities include Dallas,Texas; Elgin, Illinois; Phoenix, Arizona; and Chicago, Illinois. Fortunately, most family-based forms are filed at these locations. A lockbox is a service that is set up to receive and process payments. The USCIS ockbox facilities are simply locations that receive your application and process your payments. Some of the more popular forms filed at lockboxes include:

Again, file Form G-1145 at the same address where you are filing the primary application or petition. For example, if you are filing Form I-90, place the G-1145 on top of the application package and mail it all to the Phoenix, Arizona, lockbox.

E-Notification is Different Than Form I-797C

Will I receive a receipt notice?

Obtaining an e-notification with the G-1145 form is for informational purposes only. It gives you the extra confidence that the application has been received and accepted. The e-notification that you receive does not grant any type of status or benefit.

Regardless if you file G-1145, USCIS should mail you a receipt notice within 10 days of accepting your application. Known formally as Form I-797C, Notice of Action, the receipt notice may be used as evidence that USCIS is processing an application. If USCIS rejects the application, they will send a similar I-797C to indicate the rejection.

Getting Your Case Status

How do I track my case after e-notification?

Your initial e-notification and the receipt notice contain your receipt number. This is an important number for tracking the status of your case. The 13-character receipt number begins with three letters (such as EAC, IOE, WAC, LIN, or SRC). To view the status of a case, simply enter the receipt number into the Case Status tool on the USCIS website.
